Homemade Smoothie Pouches

I have been blessed with a toddler who eats well. Cookies, fruit snacks, cake, candy, chili cheese Fritos–she loves it all! Unfortunately, healthy food is not her thing (A.K.A.vegetables). If it’s green, she won’t touch it. So, I’ve had to find  some sneaky ways to trick her into eating veggies. My favorite (and most successful) technique is homemade smoothie pouches.

“Seriously, these things have been a life saver! My daughter feels like she is getting a treat, and I am happy knowing that she is getting a helping of vegetables to go along with her diet of fruit snacks and chips (baby steps).

I got the idea from those apple sauce packets that I used to buy in bulk. My daughter loved those and I found myself always wishing that they just had some veggies blended in. Making smoothies for your kids is not a new technique for tricking them into veggies, but usually you have to have your kids drink them basically right when they are made. Maybe that works for some people, but I just can’t see myself making a smoothie EVERY SINGLE morning and then having to wash out the blender each time. I wanted the convenience and taste of apple sauce pouches and health of fresh green smoothies.

Luckily I found what I was looking for, and the key was these reusable pouches from Amazon. They are super easy to use and clean, and BONUS–I don’t have to keep buying apple sauce pouches. Its a double win–eating healthy and saving money!

I like to make them with and without dairy. Without dairy they stay good up to a week in the fridge. The ones that I use dairy in, I just freeze and then thaw before they are eaten. Even the dairy ones are fine, though, for a couple days in the fridge. The great thing about these smoothie pouches is that you really can put whatever you want in them. If you don’t need to sneak veggies to you kids, then you can just do fruit blends or even just apple sauce or yogurt alone without adding anything. The options are limitless! I have done a ton of these by now, and I keep experimenting (usually based on what I have available in my kitchen).

Here are a few of my go-to recipes that my daughter always loves:
